Expectations
Expectations. We all have them. Without expectations we could not live.
We can either expect the best or the worst. We can expect the beautiful or the ugly. We can expect things to praise or things to curse.
The choice is ours. If we expect the beautiful and it turns out ugly, what do we do?
We must learn how to be like a rubber band. Flexible and open to adjustments. That is easier said than done.
The only way I know how to deal with disappointment and discouragement is to come to the Safe One, our Creator, and to safe people who know Him intimately. He loves to turn ashes into beauty, sadness and depression into joy and heaviness into Praise to Him. If you do not know any safe people, I will listen to you.
All we have to do is come to Him through Christ. In Matthew 11:28-30 Christ says:
"Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion (or disappointment and discouragement - my words) Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly."
